Marcus Rashford

Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford has been included in Roy Hodgson's 23-man England squad for the 2016 European Championship in France.
Rashford, 18, scored on his debut in his side's 2-1 friendly victory over Australia on Friday.
Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge is also included, but Newcastle United's Andros Townsend and Leicester City's Danny Drinkwater both miss out.
England face Portugal in their last Euro 2016 warm-up match on Thursday.
Hodgson's side begin their campaign in France by playing Russia on 11 June, before meeting Wales on 16 June and Slovakia on 20 June.
Rashford, who signed a new four-year contract with Manchester United on Monday, only made his professional debut on 25 February, but scored eight goals in 18 club games to earn an international call-up.
Sturridge, 26, missed England's last two friendly matches but did take part in a training session on Monday.
Hodgson initially named a 26-man squad after the final round of Premier League games, having intended to reveal his final selection on 12 May.
That was cut to 25 when Manchester City midfielder Fabian Delph was moved to the standby list after picking up an injury.

Squad:

Defenders: Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Chris Smalling (Manchester United), John Stones (Everton), Kyle Walker (Tottenham Hotspur), Ryan Bertrand (Southampton), Danny Rose (Tottenham Hotspur), Nathaniel Clyne (Liverpool).

Strikers: Wayne Rooney (Manchester United), Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur), Jamie Vardy (Leicester City), Daniel Sturridge (Liverpool), Marcus Rashford (Manchester United).

Jilted lover burns girlfriend alive. 'I have never seen something so atrocious" said lead police official

A Rome university student was burned alive by her ex-boyfriend after she left him, authorities said Monday. A murder one investigator called the most atrocious crime he has seen in his career.

22-year-old Sara Di Pietrantonio died on Sunday, May 29th, after her ex boyfriend Vincenzo Paduano, 27, set her car ablaze, prosecutor Maria told reporters.

He then chased her after she ran out of the car, setting her ablaze when he caught up with her, authorities said. Investigators said her attacker used a cigarette lighter to set Di Pietrantonio's face on fire after dousing her with alcohol.
"I can say that in 25 years in this work I have never seen something so atrocious," said Luigi Silipo, the lead police official in the investigation.
Paduano was being held for investigation of premeditated murder, Monteleone said.
The suspect first denied killing the woman, but after eight hours of interrogation, confessed to killing her, Silipo told reporters.

Paduano “didn't accept being abandoned' by the woman, Monteleone said. 'He organized, he planned the aggression,' the prosecutor said. Silipo said the suspect walked off his job as a security guard about 3am and waited outside the home of Di Pietrantonio's current boyfriend.

Then, after the woman left the home and drove off by herself, Paduano drove after her eventually forcing her car to the side of the road. He said.
"He got into her car, and after an argument, doused the car (interior) with a small bottle of alcohol, and doused Sara, too,” Silipo said. “She ran out, he torched the car, caught up with her, and after about 100 meters” set her ablaze, leaving her to die “in an atrocious manner,” the police official said.

A surveillance camera in the area captured some of the events, including at least two cars that passed by while the woman screamed in vain for help as she tried to flee, authorities said.

Monteleone made what she said was a fervent appeal to citizens to help such women, “not to look the other way.” She added that if passers-by had helped, the woman's life might have been saved.

She also encouraged women “not to keep hidden any threatening behavior by those who insist they love you, but it's not that way.”

Italian women's advocates have been trying to change mentalities in a country where men often turn violent when a women breaks off a relationship. One such champion for women to be more assertive in protecting themselves is an Italian lawyer whose face was mutilated in an acid attack ordered by her ex-boyfriend. She courageously testified at the ex-boyfriend's trial.

Sounding a call Monday to Italian woman to denounce threats by men to police was Chamber of Deputies President Laura Boldrini. The parliamentary leader said a change in cultural mentality was needed, starting in early childhood classrooms.
Women “must understand that those who should be ashamed are the violent ones, not the women who suffer threats," Boldrini said.

Lost year in Nigeria under Buhari leaves economy on knees' - Bloomberg magazine writes

Looks like Bloomberg likes to analyze and criticize our government and president. Found this new posted on their site today. Please read the article below
President Buhari took office as Nigeria’s president a year ago on a wave of optimism that the ex-military ruler could revive a nation battered by falling oil prices and decades of corruption. Now, Africa’s biggest economy is on its knees and Buhari has been forced to throw in the towel on a central pillar of his economic policy -- a currency peg.
“It was difficult to imagine a scenario in which things got worse,” said Malte Liewerscheidt, a Nigeria analyst at Bath, U.K.-based consultant Verisk Maplecroft. “But it’s been a lost year. What’s missing is sound macroeconomic policies.”
Nigeria will soon enter a recession, according to the central bank, and an upsurge of militant attacks since February has sent crude production, which usually accounts for 70 percent of government revenue, plummeting to an almost 30-year low. Delays in approving a budget and a cabinet as well as Buhari’s refusal to weaken an overvalued currency -- until he relented this week -- have caused foreign investors to flee.
Foreign investors, fearing a devaluation, are staying away. Foreign direct investment was the lowest last year since the 2007-08 global financial crisis, and Citigroup Inc. said deals have ground to a halt. Capital controls prompted JPMorgan Chase & Co. in September to kick Nigeria out of its local-currency emerging-market bond indexes, tracked by more than $200 billion of funds.

Bond Losses

This year, Nigeria’s local-bond yields have climbed 276 basis points to 13.46 percent, leaving them as the only such securities among 31 emerging markets tracked by Bloomberg to make losses. Electricity output has plunged to about a 30th of that of South Africa, Africa’s second-biggest economy, as attacks on pipelines cut supplies of natural gas to power plants.
When Buhari beat then-President Goodluck Jonathan in the first election victory by an opposition candidate, U.S. President Barack Obama’s administration called it an “historic step for Nigeria and Africa.” A 73-year-old retired major-general who ruled from 1983 to 1985, Buhari campaigned to end the corruption he said was “killing” his country. He and his All Progressives Congress party promised to crush Boko Haram, whose Islamist insurgency has led to thousands of deaths in the northeast since 2009, and foster economic growth of as much as 10 percent.

Naira Peg

Now recession looms. The economy contracted in the first quarter by 0.4 percent, the first decline since 2004. If Buhari doesn’t alter his stance on the naira and loosen the restrictions used to defend its peg to the dollar, output will probably sink further, according to Mark Bohlund, an Africa economist with Bloomberg Intelligence in London.
“The Nigerian economy is at high risk of experiencing its first full-year recession since 1987,” Bohlund said. An improvement next year depends on security being restored in the oil-rich Niger River delta region and “a shift toward more market-based economic policy.”
Buhari was dealt a tough hand. He inherited a virtually empty treasury and Jonathan’s administration did little to diversify the economy, leaving it vulnerable to the crash in oil prices since 2014. A rainy-day fund known as the Excess Crude Account was whittled down to barely $2 billion when Buhari took office, from $21 billion in 2008.

Boko Haram

The president has won plaudits from investors for beating back Boko Haram and trying to overhaul graft-ridden institutions, including the Nigerian National Petroleum Corp., the management of which he sacked. Yet they have been left bemused by his economic policies.
He opted to keep gasoline prices capped at 87 naira ($0.44) a liter ($1.76 a gallon) until months of shortages and unrest over long fuel lines forced him to increase them by 67 percent in mid-May. He has also clung to the naira peg even as evidence showed a dollar shortage was strangling the economy. Buhari continues to oppose devaluation, though he has given the central bank leeway to implement a more flexible currency regime, his spokesman, Garba Shehu, said on Monday.
Under Governor Godwin Emefiele, the central bank began to fix the naira at 197-199 against the dollar in late February 2015, even as other oil exporters from Russia to Colombia and Kazakhstan let their currencies drop. Buhari has backed that stance since coming to power.
Businesses are struggling to operate as the central bank, whose reserves have fallen to a more than 10-year low, runs out of the dollars they need to import raw materials and equipment. Many are forced to turn to the black market, where the naira value has plunged to around 350 per dollar. That’s pushed the inflation rate to 13.7 percent, the highest in almost six years.

Currency Squeeze

U.S. carrier United Airlines said would it stop flying to Nigeria next month, in part because of the hard-currency squeeze. Foreign airlines have the naira-equivalent of $575 million trapped in the country that they can’t repatriate, according to the International Air Traffic Association. The Africa president of Unilever, whose Nigerian unit has seen its shares drop 29 percent since Buhari became president, called the currency policy “very insane.”
The central bank’s Monetary Policy Committee voted on May 24 to allow “greater flexibility” in the foreign-exchange market, which investors hoped meant that banks would be allowed to trade the naira more freely. Yet, while Emefiele said a new system would be unveiled “in the coming days,” no changes have been made.

Policy Failure

It was an “admission of the inevitable failure of the policy, which created a black market economy,” said Kingsley Moghalu, a former deputy governor at the central bank who now teaches at Tufts University in Boston. “The exchange-rate policy contributed quite significantly to creating a recessionary situation. It hit manufacturers, who could not access forex. It has created unemployment.”
The economy is so weak that Finance Minister Kemi Adeosun says officials probably won’t be able to collect enough taxes to meet the revenue target in this year’s record 6.1 trillion naira budget, which was only passed this month after senators said Buhari’s team made mistakes in the first version sent to them.
Nigeria’s 36 states, most of which depend on monthly handouts from the federal government, are on average three to four months late with salary payments to teachers, doctors and other civil servants, according to the oil minister.
“There’s a sense of exasperation among investors,” Ronak Gopaldas, a Johannesburg-based analyst at Rand Merchant Bank, said. “There’s still a level of goodwill toward Buhari and his government but it’s dissipating. The man on the street is really struggling.”

This is supposedly Sen. Sola Adeyeye's comments on Ben Bruce's claim he was shunned by pres. Buhari

In case you don't know, Senator Adeyeye is the Senate Chief Whip

Lionel Messi tax fraud trial opens in Spain

Messi in Argentina strip with control of the ball, May 27 2016
Lionel Messi plays for Argentina in a friendly against Honduras in May 2016

The trial of Argentina and Barcelona footballer Lionel Messi on tax fraud charges has begun in Spain.
Messi and his father Jorge, who manages his financial affairs, are accused of defrauding Spain of more than €4m (£3m; $4.5m) between 2007 and 2009.
The authorities allege that the two used tax havens in Belize and Uruguay to conceal earnings from image rights.
The Spanish tax agency is demanding heavy fines and prison sentences. They deny any wrongdoing.
The trial is expected to last for three days, with Messi appearing in court on Thursday.
The income related to Messi's image rights, including contracts with Banco Sabadell, Danone, Adidas, Pepsi-Cola, Procter and Gamble, and the Kuwait Food Company.
Messi's lawyers had argued that the player had "never devoted a minute of his life to reading, studying or analysing" the contracts.
But the high court in Barcelona ruled in June 2015 that the football star should not be granted immunity for not knowing what was happening with his finances, which were being managed in part by his father.
Messi and his father made a voluntary €5m (£3.8m, $5.6m) "corrective payment" - equal to the alleged unpaid tax plus interest - in August 2013.
Messi is the five-time World Player of the Year and one of the richest athletes in the world.

Husband Brutally Kills Wife By Slashing Her Throat With Knife While She Was Sleeping

A man has brutally slashed his wife's throat in Lagos. The story has been narrated by Vero the dead woman's sister.

According to The Nation, Vero said James didn’t run away but started manifesting strange characters when they became aware of the incident.

Vero said: “We were sleeping when my sister’s husband came out to wake the first son to go and urinate. This was about 4am.  When the boy went in to wake the mother, he saw that she was not responding.  He shook her vigorously and got no response and quickly ran to call me. When I got there, I also shook her with the aim of waking her but got no response. Touching her legs, I observed that it was very cold. I shuddered and quickly removed that cloth on her face.

‘It was then that I saw that the husband had used a knife to slash her neck. He cut the vein that holds the neck and the head. She was in a pool of her own blood. Goose pimples overwhelmed me and the children. They were traumatized as they saw the lifeless body of the mother drenched with blood.

“When we were doing all these, the husband sat on the floor vomiting black things and defecating right there. Thereafter, I raised the alarm and neighbours came to apprehend him.  The police was later invited to whisk him away.”

Asked if the couple used to quarrel before the murder, Vero said:  “They used to quarrel a lot. The husband was always beating her. We severally told her to leave the house for him but she declined, preferring to endure for the sake of her children.  It was her resolve to endure that eventually caused her, her life. She gave birth to five children for him. They are both from Auchi, in Edo State. My sister was a petty trader but the husband doesn’t have any known job. As far as I know, he is jobless. It was my sister that was responsible for providing for the needs of the family. ”

Speaking on the murder of his sister, Philip, the deceased’s younger brother said: “My late sister’s husband married her when she was in the secondary school. He was initially working as a trailer driver before he lost his job. He has been jobless since then.  We have been asking her to park out all along but she refused. It is unfortunate that she ended up being sacrificed by the man she gave her all.”

One of the traders who knew the couple has this to say: “The man was very aggressive all through Wednesday and good part of Thursday. He was smoking and feverishly puffing the smoke of the cigarette into the air. He kept   throwing away every chair and table that he saw on the way and also quarrelling with everybody that saw.  We never knew that he was preparing the ground for the dastardly act he wanted to carry out.

“The wife sells frozen food at Ijora. We were outside when she returned from her business place Thursday.  She was looking very tired and sick. When we asked her what the matter was, she said she wasn’t feeling healthy. When we told her to take some days off and rest, she said it would not be possible immediately because she needed to hustle to get money to pay her children’s school fees. She said she would take time to rest after paying the school fees.  She had earlier paid the rent. Unfortunately, the rest will end up becoming an eternal one,” one of the traders said.

Another trader said: “The deceased was a gentle person. She was always going out early and coming back late in the night. We are all aware that she was the breadwinner of the family because the husband was always idle. I have serious concern about the future of the children. Before they were taking away by the deceased’s family, they were seriously hungry.  They had to go and borrow matches to lit the stove to make something for them to eat.”

Fernando Torres on champions league final :: " most important game of my life"

Fernando Torres and Cristiano Ronaldo
Atletico Madrid have never won the European Cup while Real have 10 wins

Atletico Madrid striker Fernando Torres believes Saturday's Champions League final meeting with Real Madrid is the "most important" game of his life.
The Spaniard, 32, won the trophy with Chelsea in 2012 and has also won the World Cup and European Championships.
But since making his debut in 2001 and returning last year, Torres has never won a major trophy with Atletico.
"This is different, this is special," said Torres. "It's what I wanted when I was a kid, more than I dreamed."
"Without any doubt it's the most important, special and lovely game of my life," added Torres, whose Atleti loan deal and contract at parent club AC Milan expire at the end of the season.
"Anything I can do with the club that gave me the chance to start my career, the team I was a fan of since I was five years old, is different to anything else I've won."
Torres, who left the Vicente Calderon to join Liverpool in 2007, missed Atletico's spell of success from 2010 to 2014 where the club claimed two Europa League wins, the Spanish Cup and the La Liga title in 2014.
He has managed 12 goals for Diego Simeone's side this term as they finished third in La Liga and booked a place in what is a re-run of the 2014 Champions League final.

Marcus Rashford
Marcus Rashford is England's 10th-youngest player and third-youngest goalscorer

Marcus Rashford marched off to a standing ovation from England's fans inside the Stadium Of Light at Sunderland after playing an inspirational role in their win against Australia.
Manchester United's 18-year-old striker made history as the youngest goalscorer on his England debut, netting after only 138 seconds in the 2-1 victory and giving the sort of performance that almost demands inclusion in manager Roy Hodgson's 23-man squad for Euro 2016 when it is confirmed on Tuesday.
So will the young man who has been a shining light in a soulless season at Old Trafford get the opportunity to sparkle on the international stage at the showpiece in France?

Ched Evans: Footballer's rape retrial in October

Ched Evans outside Cardiff Crown Court

Ched Evans appeared for a brief hearing at Cardiff Crown Court

Footballer Ched Evans' retrial for rape will be held in October.
Mr Evans, who always denied raping the woman, had his conviction quashed at the Court of Appeal in London in April.
The ex-Wales international was jailed in 2012 for raping a 19-year-old at a Premier Inn near Rhyl, Denbighshire.
At a hearing at Cardiff Crown Court on Friday, High Court Judge Mrs Justice Nicola Davies said Mr Evans, 27, of Alderley Edge, Cheshire, would stand trial again from 4 October.
The former Sheffield United, Manchester City and Norwich player served half of his five-year term and was released from prison in October 2014.
He has not been signed by a club since.
At the brief court hearing, Mr Evans spoke only to confirm his name and enter a not guilty plea to one count of rape, alleged to have happened on 30 May 2011.
Mrs Justice Nicola Davies will hear the trial, which will be held in Cardiff, and it is scheduled to last for two weeks.
The striker's case was referred to the Court of Appeal by the Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC), which investigates possible miscarriages of justice in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, after new evidence emerged.
The appeal hearing was held on 22 and 23 March and following the announcement of the retrial in April, Lady Justice Hallett said the judges heard "fresh evidence".
She said: "In summary, we have concluded that we must allow the appeal and that it is in the interests of justice to order a retrial."

Photo: Nigerian man arrested in India for duping 90 people through online lottery fraud

The cyber crime cell of Pune police, India has arrested a 43-year-old Nigerian national from Delhi, who had a staggering 14 accounts in reputed banks and has till now duped more than 90 people across India through lottery scams to the tune of around Rs three crore.
The accused, identified as Igwe Festus Abraham was arrested in Delhi on Tuesday, May 24 and brought to Pune on Wednesday. He has been remanded in police custody till May 31, the police said.

The investigation was initiated by the cyber cell of Pune Police after a woman registered a complaint of losing Rs 16.18 lakh to cheaters in January this year, deputy commissioner of police (cyber and economic offence wing) Deepak Sakore said.

"The woman received a mail in September 2015, informing her that she has won a lottery worth Rs 4.92 crore. She provided her bank and other details as asked in the mail," the DCP said.

"The accused then called up the woman and asked her to deposit money from time to time under the pretext of various taxes and fees," Sakore added.

The accused met her at a hotel in Pune and gave a bag, telling her that it contained US dollars and even took out four notes from the bundle. He applied some chemical on the notes to show its genuineness.

"He told her that since the chemical was over, he will have to procure it from the UK, so that remaining notes can be analysed. He then left by handing over the suitcase to the woman,"  Sakore said.

The woman took the notes to the foreign exchange, where she came to know that the suitcase contained plain papers, the officer said, adding,

"After realising that she has been duped, the woman lodged a police complaint. We successfully tracked the accused and arrested him in New Delhi," said Sunil Pawar, an Inspector with Cyber cell.

During investigation, police came to know that the accused has duped around 100 people across the country and got Rs 3 crore deposited to his various bank accounts.

Nigerian stripped of British citizenship, suspected of plotting Paris-style terror attack

A Nigerian man linked to a group of British Islamists has been stripped of his UK citizenship amid fears he would return to London to execute a Paris-style terror attack, a court heard on Tuesday, May 24.

The man, known as L2 for legal reasons,(who is currently in Nigeria with his family) was deemed such a security risk that Home Secretary Theresa May (pictured) personally signed an order removing his British nationality in 2013.

L2, who is said to have lived and worked in Tower Hamlets, East London, during his time in Britain, is now challenging the Home Office decision at a hearing at the Special Immigration Appeals Commission (Siac) in London.

According to the Bureau of Investigative Journalism, which is covering the case, an unnamed secret services agent referred to as ‘EZ’ told the hearing L2 had been “engaged in terror activity.”

L2 was directly associated with close friends of Michael Adebolajo, killer of soldier Lee Rigby, and Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) executioner Mohammed Emwazi, also known as “Jihadi John,” the court heard.

The agent said L2 had been in Turkey in 2007 taking part in terror-related activity with Ali Adorus, a close associate of Jihadi John. After returning to the UK, L2 spent time in a British prison between 2007 and 2011 for possessing a handgun, the agent said.

Following his release, L2 is understood to have attended meetings and been a member of the now banned group of  radicals al Muhajiroun.

The court was also told L2 had fought for Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) against French forces in Mali, and it was largely because of this the British state sought to ban him from returning.

"We were trying to prevent L2 bringing back the expertise he would have learnt with AQIM and so a deprivation order was the best course to take,"  the agent told Sia
c.
The agent says recent events such as last year’s Paris attacks suggest extremists are returning to conduct their jihad in Europe, including “instances where individuals from the UK have travelled overseas and returned to conduct attacks."

The agent also said L2 worked at Master Printers in Tower Hamlets - a printing shop raided by police in 2011 over suspicions of links to al Muhajiroun.

L2 worked alongside Ibrahim Hassan(left) and Shah Jalal Hussein (right) who was tried in 2014 for disseminating terrorist propaganda and jailed for three years.

The court heard the pair knew each other “not just through their employment” but because they were both founding members of the proscribed terrorist organization Minbar Ansar Deen.

In cross examination, Hugh Southey QC, barrister for L2, said his client denied being a member of either al Muhajiroun or Minbar Ansar Deen, merely that he was acquainted with members.

Southey said Minbar Ansar Deen was “essentially just a website,” which L2 denies ever visiting. The case continues....
