Photos: Family members in tears as Indonesia fast tracks execution, Titus Igwe ask to see his wife and kids for the last time

Family members of 14 death row prisoners wept and one was close to collapse after learning the largest mass killing of convicted drug felons in Indonesia would take place on Thursday night - 24 hours earlier than expected

Lawyers and embassy staff were also grim-faced as they emerged from the prosecutor's office in Cilacap on Thursday after being informed the deaths of the eight Nigerians, including Titus Igwe, four Indonesians, one Indian and one Pakistani were just hours away.

The executions were proceeding despite nine of the condemned filing last-minute clemency pleas and pressure to postpone the executions amid growing evidence that
"This is just insane, it should be tomorrow," said the director of the Community Legal Aid Institute, Ricky Gunawan, who was filing clemency pleas on behalf of Indonesian woman Merri Utami and Nigerian Humphrey Jefferson Ejike Eleweke.
Human rights lawyer Todung Mulya Lubis said at least three of those facing the firing squad - Mr Eleweke, Ms Utami and Pakistani textile worker Zulfiqar Ali - may have received wrongful judgments.
"In the name of justice, they deserve a retrial," Dr Mulya said. He said many had not lodged clemency pleas until the 11th hour because that would be to admit guilt and they insisted they were innocent. This third round of executions is the largest number of people ever executed in Indonesia's history - it's unprecedented," Dr Mulya said.

The sister-in-law of Michael Titus Igweh,(pictured in veil holding up a family statement condemning the execution) who alleged police had applied electricity to his genitals to force him to confess to heroin possession, said his final request had been to see his wife and family for the last time.

However she said Mr Igweh's wife was in Nigeria and would not arrive in Indonesia until Friday - hours after her husband was killed.
"Yesterday I met Titus and he was angry and upset," Nila said. "He said: 'What kind of justice is this? What kind of country is Indonesia?"
Nila said she had chosen to sacrifice her last-ever visit to Mr Igweh in order to tell his story to the media:
"At this time I believe there are two things that can help Titus, one is God and one is the media. If that was the last time to see Titus, than so be it."
On Thursday morning 17 ambulances - 14 containing coffins -  were ferried to Nusakambangan, known as Indonesia's Alcatraz, where the prisoners will be strapped to wooden posts and shot dead by a firing squad.

Police leaked grisly details leaked to the media by Police about the logistics of executions, including the size of the coffins, which were as long as 190 centimetres for some of the Africans.

They said 198 executioners would be deployed, 140 guards, 70 equipment personnel and a 16-person sterilisation team. Each convict would require chains, a padlock, white aprons, a head cover, a pole, a chair, a marking sticker, a plastic bag for their belongings and scissors.

Meanwhile, Catholic priest in Cilap confirms he will visit 3 Nigerian prisoners ahead of their execution, according to Indonesia bureau chief for ABC, Samantha Hawley.

Alleged budget padding: Abdulmumin Jibrin alleges Dogara diverted Fed. govt water project to his farm in Nasarrawa

Sacked chairman of the House of Representatives committee on Appropriation, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has released a new statement indicting speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara. According to Jibrin, Dogara fraudulently diverted  a Federal government water project to his farm in Nasarawa state. Read his statement below
Good morning fellow Nigerians, Everyday I will give additional allegation against Mr Speaker and the 3 others until the law catches up with them. Allegation no21 to MrSpeaker: why did you fraudulently divert a Fed Govt water project to your farm in Nasarawa and how are you funding the farm?

When a new Speaker emerges and the other principal officers replaced, I will write to the presiding officers of both chambers to commence a radical internal reform in the entire NASS beyond budget to cover performance assessment, running cost and allowances, investigations etc

If the reform so done on NASS is not made public latest by December, I shall take it up and lay before the general public even if I am alone

The idea is to do a clean up, flush out corruption and corrupt members so that in 2019 only corrupt free people who want to serve will come in

God Almighty knows I am not perfect but as I approach 40 years in September, I have always wondered what is it that I can live and die for...

On one hand, I settled for aggressive rural agriculture with emphasis on migrating our farmers from subsistence to commercial farming but I woke up mid night yesterday to pray and SUDDENLY realized I have become AN ACCIDENTAL ACTIVIST. This is noble and there is NO GOING BACK!

I am a product of the establishment but something in me has never been comfortable. Iam so glad that by September 9th my 40th birthday everybody would have known where I stand for the rest of my life; rural agriculture and fight against corruption especially in the NASS

For those who keep saying why now should realize that for every situation like this to occur, there must be a trigger how ever it looks!

TF??!! Check out what this lady wore to a party

Obama passes the baton to Clinton as he attacks ‘homegrown demagogue’ Trump

DNC 2016: Barack Obama, in swan-song to his party, extols Hillary Clinton for experience and steel

obamaclinton.jpg
To deep-throated applause and chants of ‘Yes we can!’, Barack Obama stepped into the giant sports arena hosting Democrats in Philadelphia to declare that, “there has never been a man or a woman more qualified than Hillary Clinton to serve as President of the United States”.
If there was voltage in the air when he started, it became a full electric storm as, at the moment he seemed to be departing, Ms Clinton herself walked onto the stage in a surprise appearance to give him a hug of appreciation. They left the stage together to roars from thrilled delegates, her arm around his waist.
In his address, Mr Obama depicted Ms Clinton as a candidate seasoned to serve in the Oval Office and a person who “never, ever quits”. And most importantly, he said, she has, after serving as Secretary of State, seen the job of being president first hand and what it involves.
“Until you’ve sat at that desk, you don’t know what it’s like to manage a global crisis or send young people to war,” he said. “Hillary’s been in the room; she’s been part of those decisions.”
It was a speech that was part paean to the newly minted nominee, part nostalgia for his nearly eight years on Pennsylvania Avenue, and part vigorous rejection of the dark portrait of America he said was being offered by her Republican foe, Donald Trump.
“This year, in this election, I’m asking you to join me – to reject cynicism, reject fear, to summon what’s best in us; to elect Hillary Clinton as the next President of the United States, and show the world we still believe in the promise of this great nation,” Mr Obama declared.
“No matter how daunting the odds; no matter how much people try to knock her down, she never, ever quits. That’s the Hillary I know. That’s the Hillary I’ve come to admire.  And that’s why I can say with confidence there has never been a man or a woman more qualified than Hillary Clinton – not me, not Bill, not anybody – to serve as President of the United States.”

It was also a speech laced with reminders of the Mr Obama of 2008 when he deployed his oratorical skills to dispatch Ms Clinton on the way to the White House. “Democracy isn’t a spectator sport,” he intoned. “America isn’t about ‘yes he will’. It’s about ‘yes we can’.  And we’re going to carry Hillary to victory this fall, because that’s what the moment demands.”
Her Republican rival is “offering slogans, and he’s offering fear,” Mr Obama said. “He’s betting that if he scares enough people, he might score just enough votes to win this election.”
“That is another bet that Donald Trump will lose. Because he’s selling the American people short. We are not a fragile or frightful people. Our power doesn’t come from some self-declared savior promising that he alone can restore order. We don’t look to be ruled.”
“Anyone who threatens our values,” as a land, he said, “whether fascists or communists or jihadists or homegrown demagogues, will always fail in the end.”
“America is already great. America is already strong. And I promise you, our strength, our greatness, does not depend on Donald Trump…it doesn’t depend on any one person.  And that, in the end, may be the biggest difference in this election – the meaning of our democracy.”
If the tone of speakers before him had verged on mockery, Mr Obama’s attacks on Mr Trump were sober in tone. He admonished delegates not to boo the first time he uttered his name.
“Donald’s not really a plans guy,” he sad. “Not really a facts guy, either. He calls himself a business guy, which is true, but I have to say, I know plenty of businessmen and women who’ve achieved success without leaving a trail of lawsuits, and unpaid workers, and people feeling like they got cheated.” His message seemed most urgent on Mr Trump and foreign policy.
“He cozies up to Putin, praises Saddam Hussein, and tells the NATO allies that stood by our side after 9/11 that they have to pay up if they want our protection.  Well, America’s promises do not come with a price tag.  We meet our commitments, we bear or burden.”
And he clearly took personally the contention of Mr Trump that America is country in perilous, chronic decline.
“What we heard in Cleveland last week wasn’t particularly Republican – and it sure wasn’t conservative.  What we heard was a deeply pessimistic vision of a country where we turn against each other, and turn away from the rest of the world. There were no serious solutions to pressing problems – just the fanning of resentment, and blame, and anger, and hate.”
“That is not the America I know,” he said “The America I know is full of courage, and optimism, and ingenuity,” he said. “The America I know is decent and generous.”
If Mr Obama had told aides he did not want the speech to be about him, someone couldn’t resist. Before he came to the stage a gauzy paean panned through those moments of greatest challenge for him in the Oval Office, from financial meltdown to the killing of Osama bin Laden, and greatest achievements including the passage of healthcare reform and of gay marriage.
kaine.jpg

Mr Obama came surely aware that he will soon be leaving office having woven a presidency that may largely be well remembered by history but is replete with holes. There are specific goals that will go unmet – from closing Guantanamo Bay to bringing about new strictures on gun ownership – to more holistic ones like his promise to deliver an American less divided politically.
Even in endorsing Ms Clinton, he was turning a blind eye to her newly contorted position on opposing ratification of the Trans-Pacific Partnership, TPP, a free-trade treaty of 12 nations, that Mr Obama has seen as one of the most significant planks of his legacy as president.
Most critical to Mr Obama’s legacy, however, is convincing Americans to elect the candidate who will not destroy it, but give it a new four-year or eight-year fresh lease. Just as she has not hesitated to tie herself to him on the trail as his approval ratings have risen above 50 per cent again, so he now has everything invested in her taking the keys to the Oval Office from him. “She will finish the job,” he said at point in his speech. He was talking about destroying Isis, he might as well as been talking about all of his agenda.
Mr Obama was the star turn in a night of Democrat A-listers, however, all assembled with a common, urgent task: the painting of Mr Trump as a dangerous demagogue who would bring disaster to the country. Or, as Vice President Joe Biden put it in a speech brimming with grave passion, a “man who seeks to sow division in America for his own gain and disorder around the world, a man who confuses bluster or strength”. He ended: “We simply cannot let that happen as Americans.”
biden.jpg

“He shows up saying he cares about the middle class,” Mr Biden, who once toyed with competing with Ms Clinton for the nomination but demurred. “Give me a break! That’s a bunch of malarkey. He has no clue about what makes America great.  Actually he has no clue, period.” That remark sent the hall into a spontaneous chorus of “Not a clue! Not a clue!”
Also in the arena was Michael Bloomberg, the former Mayor of New York who assumed that office as a Republican but who said that he could not stay silent faced with the threat of a Trump White House. “Trump says he wants to run the nation like he is running his business?” Mr Bloomberg, a self-made billionaire, asked. “God help us. I am a New Yorker and I know a con when I see one…Truth be told the richest thing about Donald Trump is his hypocrisy.”
The task was also taken up by Senator Tim Kaine, who after accepted the nomination of running mate, but then began a riff on Mr Trump’s penchant for saying “believe me” with every campaign promise he makes.  “He never tells you how is going to do any of the things he says he is going to do, he just says, ‘Believe me’,” he intoned, peppering his remarks with Spanish.  “The question is, do you believe him?” The entire auditorium faithfully boomed, “no!”.  “Folks you can’t blelieve one word that comes out of Donald Trump’s mouth, not one word.”

Traditional ruler threatens to sue Melaye over his verbal attack on Oluremi Tinubu

A traditional ruler in Oyo state, the Atapa of Itapa Ijesa, Dr. Olapade Agoro, has threatened to file a lawsuit against Senator Dino Melaye over his verbal attack on Senator Remi Tinubu during the senate plenary early this month. Speaking to the Nation at his palace yesterday, Agoro who is a politician and religious leader said
“No wonder, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, without mincing words, told the whole world that the National Assembly is full of corrupt legislators. That was a weighty statement. When you say corruption, you are not limiting it to taking bribe.
It could be immoral. By what he did on the floor of the Senate, I will say Melaye has committed immorality. For this young man to have lost morality and common sense on the floor of the hallowed chamber, to have threatened to beat up a woman, that was too much. You don’t say you want to beat up another man’s wife on the hallowed chamber; forget who the husband is. That issue is beyond political scene. It raises the question of morality. When a man says he will beat up another man’s wife and even impregnate her, it means the man has admitted to be a rapist. By now, the police should have stepped in. It’s a reckless and senseless vituperation that should be taken beyond the floor of the Senate. The young man has been so reckless ever since he became a senator. It shows how corrupt he is. I don’t know why that type of character should be allowed to continue staying in the Senate. The APC should have by now sanctioned him to protect the name of the party, not demanding an apology from him. I could have taken him court, if not for anything, because we don’t expect characters like him in the Senate. He should be made to face the music”‎.

Cesc Fabregas sent off for dangerous tackle on Liverpool's Ragnar Klavan

Cesc Fabregas

Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas was shown a straight red card for a foul on new Liverpool signing Ragnar Klavan in a pre-season friendly in the US.
Fabregas, 29, went into the challenge with a raised boot and the referee at Pasadena's Rose Bowl had no hesitation.
Chelsea were 1-0 winners on the night, with defender Gary Cahill heading in after 10 minutes following a corner.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp confirmed Fabregas went into Liverpool's dressing room after the game to apologise.
New Chelsea manager Antonio Conte also apologised for the challenge but insisted it was not intentional.
"I think that the fatigue sometimes can bring a [player] to go too late," he said.
"I know Fabregas is a good man, a good boy and is not a player to have this type of situation. I'm sorry for him, I'm sorry for the Liverpool player."

Celtic: Kolo Toure excited to work with Brendan Rodgers again

Kolo Toure

New Celtic signing Kolo Toure is looking forward to "something really special" after reuniting with manager Brendan Rodgers.
The 35-year-old defender worked with Rodgers at Liverpool.
"He is a top manager," enthused the Ivory Coast international. "For me, he is one of the best.
"He did a great job at Swansea then he came to Liverpool, did a great job again, and I am sure he will do a great job here."
Having signed a one-year deal on Sunday, Toure, who has also played for Arsenal and Manchester City, is not in Celtic's travelling party for the Champions League trip to Kazakhstan ahead of the first leg of a third-round qualifier against Astana.
"I'm fit," he said. "But of course I have just joined the team and I need time to be ready.
"I can't tell you when but I am ready right now in my mind and I will give everything I have got every day to be able to help my team-mates.
"I just joined the club and there are players who have been working really hard for two months. The manager is the best guy to make the decision. For me, I stick to anything the manager says because every decision he makes is for the good of the team.
"I will be with them in my heart, I will pray for them as well. Definitely we'll do it."

'Inspirational' Toure is key asset

Toure played in the 2006 Champions League final with Arsenal and assistant manager Chris Davies believes the arrival of such an "inspirational" player will be a valuable asset on and off the field.
"He's a top defender with real authority and experience," said Davies.
"We are not only getting a really good player but someone who can inspire players around them to help the team.
"He has been working with a personal trainer so it is an important week physically for him and we will see how it goes."

'Kanye asked Taylor for permission in song but didn't ask me before using naked wax image of me in video?'- Amber Rose

Amber Rose says her ex, Kanye West should have contacted her to seek permission before using a naked wax figure of her in his controversial video 'famous' just the same way he called Taylor Swift to ask for her permission before recording the song.

She said in a sneak peek of The Amber Rose Show:
'So, I say all of that to say, why didn't I get a phone call for using a naked wax figure in your video Kanye? I mean, Taylor gets a call but I don't get a call. So please stay the f**k out of the news so I don't need to talk about your ass anymore.'
Her comments come after she supported the rapper in the ongoing feud between him, his wife Kim Kardashian and singer Taylor Swift.
Speaking on her show, Amber said she believes Kanye West would never use derogatory lyrics about Taylor Swift in his song without asking for her permission as she was by his side during the 2009 VMA's and knew how he felt bad after the media furore that followed his humiliation of the singer on stage.

Sunderland: David Moyes replaces Sam Allardyce as manager

David Moyes

David Moyes has been appointed Sunderland manager on a four-year deal.
The former Everton and Manchester United boss, 53, takes charge at the Stadium of Light after Sam Allardyce left to become England manager.
"I have taken over a big British club, with a great support, and I'm looking forward to working in the Premier League again," said Moyes.
The Scot has been out of work since being sacked by Spanish club Real Sociedad in November.
Allardyce was confirmed as Roy Hodgson's successor with the national team on Friday.

Moyes was 'number one target' - chairman

Sunderland chairman Ellis Short said Moyes was "by far and away first choice" to take control of the Black Cats and that he had tried to recruit him several times before.
"He is a man whose football pedigree speaks for itself and is someone I have long admired," said Short.
"I have spoken with him on many occasions and I have always been hugely impressed.
"He was my number one managerial target for the last five appointments, but his desire to honour existing contracts meant we were not able to bring him to Sunderland previously. To be able to finally welcome him as our manager is fantastic news for the club."

Managerial awards - but tough times at Old Trafford

Moyes, who started his managerial career at Preston North End, was voted LMA Manager of the Year three times during an 11-year spell at Everton.
He succeeded Sir Alex Ferguson as Manchester United boss on his fellow Scot's recommendation when he retired after a trophy-laden 26 years in charge at Old Trafford.
But despite signing a six-year deal with the then Premier League champions, he was sacked 10 months later and went on to manage Real Sociedad in Spain.
Moyes was tipped to take over at Aston Villa earlier in the summer but ruled himself out of the running and the job went to Roberto Di Matteo.
"I look forward to continuing the good work done by Sam," said Moyes of the Sunderland role.
He will be the club's fourth manager in less than three years, following Gus Poyet, Dick Advocaat and Allardyce.
Former Bolton, Newcastle and West Ham manager Allardyce joined Sunderland in October 2015, with the club second bottom in the Premier League and winless in their opening eight games.
But they recovered to finish 17th, one place above their relegated north-east rivals Newcastle United.

Niger Delta Avengers say they are not in talks with the presidency

Barely 24 hours after President Buhari disclosed that his government is in talks with the Niger Delta militants to stem the tide of attacks on oil installations in the region, notable militant group, Niger Delta Avengers, released a statement on their website saying they are not aware of such talks. Read their statement below ...
"Our attention has been drawn to media report that the President is in touch with Niger Delta agitators including the Niger Delta Avengers but the truth is that we are not aware of any peace talk. If there is any such peace talk, it means the President is talking to their mercenaries set to disturb the genuine struggle of the agitators. President Buhari led government is not sincere to the Nigeria people and their foreign allies. If we are to engage in any peace talk we made it clear that the international community must be part of it. The President know our demands. So they should stop deceiving the international oil companies, the general public and the international community.

Cocaine addiction: Details of a twitter fight that ensued between two girls that seemed irrelevant until NDLEA got involved

This story trended in Nigeria yesterday but I didn't pay it much mind until the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA reacted to it. Here's what happened. A girl named Madonna Djebah @6fthobbit (pictured left) & Uduak @uduakisbae (pictured right) dragged themselves on Twitter over a Stolen mifi and revealed their secrets which range from Drugs (Cocaine & weed) addiction to Lesbianism. It gets more interesting after the cut...

First of all, Madonna accussed Uduak of coming to her home and stealing from her. She said Uduak stole her mifi, (Moblie wifi), money and makeup belonging to her friend. Madonna revealed when she confronted Uduak via phone, she went on to Twitter to indirectly insult her. Hence she had no choice but to publicly call her out and disgrace her.

Uduak responded and admitted to taking the wifi. She said she wanted to get an hotel but Madonna was the one who invited her over. Uduak then threatened Madonna, saying 'You are a big girl but your shouting because of 15k mifi? Madonna needs to shut the fuck up before I send videos of her doing cocaine to her father'. She went on to accuse Madonna of hiding her drug addiction from her parents, her curfew at home is 8pm, etc.

Madonna @6ftHobbit replied saying Uduak was just supposed to spend a night but ended up spending four days. That she stole things and ran away while her friends searched for them. When she attempted to message her in private, she blocked her and everyone who knew of her theft.

Uduak responded by finally agreeing to return the Mifi, saying she l'll send it through an Uber taxi. Madonna revealed it was a lie and said she'll be filing a police report whether Uduak likes it or not. That she was just a broke ass girl who couldn't afford to pay for hotel or a 13k buffet service.

Making matters even worse, Madonna revealed that Uduak is a lesbian who hooked up with another friend on her bed and disturbed her parents with the noise. Se also responded to Uduak's threat of telling her father about her cocaine habit, saying someone already beat her to it and that's why she has a curfew and is on watch 24/7.
To cut the long story short, a friend in on the drama shared a photo of Uduak snorting cocaine, and said the cocaine was bought for N110k and that Uduak snorted N60k out of it. NDLEA revealed they are monitoring developments on the matter.
